Helping the Hungry - The Gathering

If you're looking to get some volunteer hours, or even just lend a helping hand, The Gathering could always use some student support.

The Gathering is a nonprofit organization with a mission to stop hunger in the Southeast Wisconsin area. The Gathering opens its doors to feed the homeless and those in need.  Meals include a protein, such as chicken or sausage, a vegetable, dairy, bread, and dessert.  Everything is completely free, served on a tray in the warm basement of a downtown Milwaukee church.

I volunteered at The Gathering during the fall semester.  In three hours I helped serve breakfast to over 170 people in need.  It was an eye-opening experience and I was happy to help so many people.

To volunteer, visit the CCBLLR office in the Union.  You can sign up for UWM transportation to and from the site.  The Gathering staff is friendly, fun, and welcome new volunteers each day.  For more information contact RA Danielle at ddstobb@uwm.edu.
