Front Page News

It is that time again to update on the Film and Visual Arts LLCs.

I am currently working with the instructors on some programs. I am particularly looking forward to the Visual Arts trip to Chicago at the end of April. Please cross your fingers that we have good weather.

So, I guess the LLC thing is headlining news these days....expect in about a month for there to be a big story on LLCs on the front page of the UWM webpage. It should be up for a few weeks and it should be pretty cool. I did a short interview about my experiences with on of the writers on Tuesday night.

Thats all I really have for now. Untill next time...

COMPASS LLC...not just about science.

A few weeks ago, I heard a knock on my door. I open it to see two enthusiastic faces staring back at me as if they have some "big news". Eric and Dylan, two of my residents, proceeded to tell me about how they're going to be making a show that they post on Youtube reviewing music related things. And that I need to watch it as soon as it's posted.

Why am I blogging about this? Because Dylan is a member of the COMPASS LLC and this week, I get to pick the topic for the blog.

Congratulations Dylan, here's some shameless free press.

Mepod Radio!

Watch it. Subscribe to it.
It's good stuff.

Moral of the story:
Science is not the only subject we excel in over here in the COMPASS Community.

Over and out.

Outside of the Lab...

Last week was a lot of fun hanging out with the Lab Rats! For our semester kickoff we got together for our first social. Of course to start things off right we had to have food--we headed down to Palms for some delicious shakes and burgers!
We spend the evening hanging out and getting to know eachother. A fun game we played let us ask eachother all sorts of crazy questions (I now know a lot of random facts about the Lab Rats). Of course the evening couldn't be complete without some science talk too! We discussed recent scientific discoveries and debated the pros and cons of technological advances. Overall a good time was had by all.
Stay tuned for pictures and an update about our upcoming trip to Discovery World in March!

Such and Such at Sandburg

So, following up on Courtney's post about Riverview suites, I guess we should take a look at some Sandburg awesomeness?

Here we have a fantastic shelving unit, provided by University Housing. Perfect for storing books, putting things (like pictures of cats) on the small bulletin board, or almost anything. Thankfully they can be stacked on the desk, floor, or even hung on the wall!
This is a small peek at the closet space that's in every room. There are drawers, a place to hang things, and even shelves above! Plenty of ample space for those awesome threads.

You can tell I'm a computer science student, wow. Two things about this picture: (other than me saying Craigslist is amazing for getting cheap computer supplies) First, the desk/chair. Once again, plenty of storage space and plenty of space to work. And the chairs are pretty comfy! And as you can kinda see, the bed is lofted. We'll get to that in a second.
Here you can see the lofted bed. I think it's the best idea ever. You get so much more space! And that's about it for this picture, other than the animals with shades and me trying not to talk about my geekiness that is my desk.

Why I love Sandburg:
-Everything you need is there: computer lab, cafeteria, the Empo, workout center.
-Tons of great people to meet!
-You can get to almost every class in about 5 minutes! Yay for sleeping in!
-Awesome people like me live there!

Sights and Such of Riverview

Here is some info on Riverview. Have questions? Leave a comment.

Some pics of my Riverview room. Each bedroom in the suite is about 11 by 14 feet.
I decided to loft my bed to put storage and a futon underneath- saves so much space!

This was my desk, it is given to you by housing. It provides a lot of storage. Mine is a bit messy :)

Here is a picture of the large patio at Riverview. A lot of people eat, hang out and grill back there.

Just a LITTLE bit of our closet. It is walk in and about 6 by 8 feet.

Some bathroom pics from last year when I was a first year at Riverview....very spacious. The bathrooms are about 6 by 8 feet.

This picture was taken this year across the Milwaukee River. Riverview has TONS of biking and hiking trails right there. It is nice to get away from the city every now and then on them.
Why I like Riverview:
- Incredibly spacious
- No "wierd dorm lighting"
- It is big but not TOO big with about 475 residents. Familiar faces makes it easier to make friends quickly.
- It is away from campus, so you don't ALWAYS feel like you are at school.
- Pick n save is right across the street!
- There is a bus stop for 2 major malls within a block
- The shuttle is convenient
- It has work out rooms and a kitchen that I can use
- Something is always going on as long as I stay involved
- It is VERY new and clean! Riverview just opened in January of 2008!

Science scholars can have fun too.

So tonight the Compass LLC had a little get together. It was decided that Apples to Apples would be the game of the night, we played for about an hour or so while nibbling on some of Palm Garden's finest pizzas.

The match was dominated by Matt and I, winning 17 green cards a piece.
All in all, it was a good time.
The few that showed up were really excited to be there, as you can see.
Lots of pizza. Lots of laughs.

What more can you ask for?

Ps-Upon reviewing this post and these photos, I just want to say...I love my job.
