Local 2 Global: Studying Abroad

On January 23rd the Center for International Education put on an amazing Study Abroad Fair in the Union Ballroom. This was the Local 2 Global LLC Kickoff and the students loved it! Because there are some Global Studies majors in the LLC and since studying abroad and having an international internship is part of the graduation requirements, this was an excellent opportunity for my residents to learn more about their options. My residents got to learn about all sorts of different programs to use to fulfill their requirements and because the Study Abroad Fair was running practically all day, those who could not attend with the group still made sure to stop by on their own free time between classes.

One of my residents, Jack, who is thinking about majoring in Anthropology here at UWM, was excited to have learned a lot of information about Ireland. He has been eager to study abroad there for a while so the fact that there was entire booth dedicated to the country was awesome for him. He spent a while talking to the program coordinators and learning about his options. Now, he is planning on possibly going over this coming summer!

Another resident, Alphia, who is double majoring in Global Studies and Russian also had a great time at the event. She was looking around at all of the different program options, including the UWM faculty led programs as well as the many organizations who put on separate programs.

All in all, the Study Abroad fair was an excellent event for the Local 2 Global residents to put themselves out there and learn more about their options!
