To kick off the new semester the Beyond Borders LLC accompanied with the CERNET exchange students in Cambridge put on a Chinese New Year event. The students were able to write traditional Chinese couplets (just in time for Valentine's Day!), eat a traditional meal, and watch a presentation on the history behind the traditions of the day. At the end of the program, each resident in attendance received a red envelope, just as in China but without the money. Some of the red envelopes had a special slip which meant that residents had won a prize! The prizes consisted of a coffee maker, headphones, a UWM sweatshirt, and 5 envelopes that had a authentic 5 Yuan in it, courtesy of one of the CERNET students!The students had a great time and were able to learn a lot the traditions and customs behind the Chinese New Year.
