Hello everyone!
For this blog I’m going to highlight a significant person
that I believe the Environmental Sustainability & Biology-Mathematics LLC
would benefit tons for meeting. And the one person that automatically comes to
my mind when I think of campus sustainability is Kate Nelson. Not only has Kate been UWM's Sustainability Coordinator since 2008, but she is very also
involved in the community.
Being a native to
Milwaukee and a graduate of UWM, Kate understands the unique challenges that
our campus deals with on a day-to-day basis. Furthermore, Kate has a positive
and enthusiastic personality that not only does it show every time you are with
her but she is able to transmit it to others.
Working to make the campus more sustainable is quite a challenge that
she has taken on her shoulders and anyone that has met her knows and believes
in the positive impact it would have on our campus and our planet.
Kate along with her
staff made up of UWM students, works with students, faculty, and staff to promote
sustainable initiatives on campus. Therefore, she is a great person to contact if
you are interested in sustainability on campus at all. To get connected to
UWM’s Office of Sustainability check out their website http://www4.uwm.edu/pps/Sustainability/ or talk to Kate specifically at knelson6@uwm.edu
One of the major
upcoming events is the Campus Sustainability Day on Wednesday October 24th
The day will start
with a bike powered concert at Spaights Plaza from 12:00-1:00pm
Followed by a City of Milwaukee
Sustainability Planning Round Table at the Golda Meir Library Teaching

And to finish up
the great day, there will be a Switch Energy Project in the Union Theater at

Come and join other
individuals on campus with a passion for our planet.
