Deaf Game Night

The year has started!  The ASL-LLC is excited for our event next week!  We have invited the LLC course instructors as well as the LLC advisor to our community.  We plan to play Deaf games and socialize.  We are using this opportunity to develop friendships outside of the classroom.  We will be working together for the remainder of the school year, so it is important to know and feel comfortable with the members of our community.

By playing Deaf games, aspects of Deaf culture are being introduced to the LLC residents.  What makes this opportunity so cool is that residents get to experience the culture first hand!  Facial expressions and body language are a huge part of ASL.  By playing Deaf games (some are common among the hearing culture as well, such as charades) students will experience how important facial expressions and body language is.  Along with introducing Deaf culture, this event will allow students to start actively using the language they have chosen to study.  This is a great opportunity to start applying what is taught in the classroom to the real world.
